Andrea Berta joins Arsenal as sporting director

Arsenal have officially announced the appointment of Andrea Berta as the club’s new Sporting Director.

The news was confirmed today, Sunday, on the club’s official website.

Berta is a highly respected football figure with extensive experience.

He previously worked at Carpenedolo, Parma, and Genoa before joining Atlético Madrid.

During his nearly 12 years at Atlético, he played a crucial role in squad building. He contributed to their LaLiga triumphs in 2013/14 and 2020/21, the 2018 Europa League victory, and several domestic and international titles. Atlético also reached two UEFA Champions League finals during his time.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Berta said, “I am thrilled to be joining Arsenal in what is a hugely exciting period for the club.

“I have watched with great interest the way Arsenal has evolved in recent years and I have admired the hard work that has gone into reestablishing the club as a major force in European football with a passionate following around the world.”

Arsenal’s Co-Chair, Josh Kroenke, praised Berta’s appointment, highlighting his expertise and successful track record. “Anyone who knows football knows Andrea is an impressive figure. He has vast knowledge of the game, a great track record, a strong network, and an insatiable desire to build winning teams,” Kroenke stated.

Berta, who replaces Edu Gaspar in the role, is expected to play a key part in Arsenal’s long-term ambitions as they continue their push for major trophies.
