The Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung has said that Nigeria would soon introduce its own anti-doping agency to checkmate use of banned substances among athletes.
Dalung made this known while speaking at the final of of the maiden edition of Lagelu Inter secondary school athletics competition held at the University of Ibadan mini-stadium.
The Minister who was represented by the Director of the Grassroots Sports Development in the sports ministry, Ademola Are said that the country will introduce the anti-doping agency as soon as the National Assembly passed the bill establishing it.
He explained that many athletes took to doping in order to win at all cost adding that government would eradicate this through its own anti-doping agency.
Dalung also said that talents discovered are being utilised very well through camping as those picked at the last National Youth Games are being nurtured pointing out that the era of not making use of them adequately is gone.
Earlier in his remarks, the sponsor of the school meet dominated by Brightville College, Engineer Seyi Makinde, said that competition remains a veritable means of building the society and the youth in particular.
He enjoined athletes not to cut corners in their bid to win their respective events but always prepare very well and win on merit.
