Antoine Griezmann: ‘Time to win a trophy’

Antoine Griezmann said that ‘it is time for him to win a trophy’ after Atletico Madrid booked their spot in the Europa League final by overcoming Arsenal on Thursday night.

Diego Costa scored the only goal of the second leg of their Europa League semi-final as Atletico recorded a 2-1 aggregate victory over Arsenal.

Griezmann has scored over 100 goals for Atletico since his move in the summer of 2014, but the France international is yet to win a major trophy, and is desperate to put that right in the Europa League final against Marseille later this month.

“It’s time for me to win a trophy,” Marca quotes Griezmann as saying. “We have had our minds set on this competition since we entered it and we know how tough it is to triumph in, we have needed to fight in every match and every round.

“We knew for the semi-final we would need to play longer balls and attempt to win knockdowns and second balls, and you can see the impact of Diego (Costa).

“The atmosphere? We wanted to have that of the Vicente Calderon replicated here and tonight (Thursday) it happened, we have asked the fans to support us and they have been fantastic.”

Griezmann has scored 27 times and registered 14 assists in 46 appearances for Atletico this season.
