Coach Diego Simeone feels striker Antoine Griezmann is a vital part of his Atletico Madrid team and can keep improving.
Griezmann was the subject of interest from Barcelona earlier this summer, with the Catalans said to be willing to pay 100m euros to take France’s World Cup-winning hitman to the Nou Camp.
However, the former Real Sociedad forward rejected Barca’s overtures to pen a new deal with Los Rojiblancos, keeping him at Wanda Metropolitano until the summer of 2023.
It remains to be seen if the prolific front man sees out his deal with Atletico, with some of the biggest clubs likely to test the water in the coming years but, speaking at a press conference in Singapore, Simeone stated that only Griezmann can explain why he wanted to remain with the club and feels he has much more to give.

“That’s a question for him, I’m very respectful of player’s decisions when they stay and when they go, an opinion about how he feels is a good question for him,” he said.
“I hope he keeps growing even more than he has until now, he has no limit, he’s important for us and is a good team-mate, surrounded by the people who form a squad which is improving.”
