Bookmakers suspend betting on Italian being axed after flurry of strange betting activity in London

DIEGO SIMEONE is the bookies favourite to become the next Chelsea manager – if Antonio Conte is sacked.

The Atletico Madrid boss is at the head of the list of potential successors at Stamford Bridge with Conte’s future shrouded in mystery, according to Paddy Power.

Bookmakers this afternoon suspended betting on the Italian to be the next manager sacked amid a flurry of bizarre betting activity in London.

And the Argentine is the clear 4-1 favourite having recently cut the length of his contract with Atletico by two years.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is next in line with Roman Abramovich being a long-term admirer – although Spurs would make it very hard for them to pinch their main man.

The first English manager on the list is Eddie Howe, who is regarded as one of the brightest young managers in the game for his work with Bournemouth.

Ex-chief Guus Hiddink is also in the mix after taking charge towards the end of last season to help the Blues out, Paddy Power said.

Roberto Mancini – the former Manchester City manager – is also being touted at 16/1 along with Manuel Pellegrini.

Next permanent Chelsea manager odds
4/1 Diego Simeone
7/1 Mauricio Pochettino
9/1 Guus Hiddink
12/1 Laurent Blanc
12/1 Eddie Howe
16/1 Joachim Loew
16/1 Manuel Pellegrini
16/1 Ronald Koeman
18/1 Roberto Mancini
