Arsenal hopeful Alexis Sanchez will face Manchester United

ARSENAL are hopeful Alexis Sanchez will be available to face Manchester United on Saturday.

Sanchez has been struggling with a hamstring injury but played 84 minutes and scored twice in Chile’s 3-1 win against Uruguay in the early hours of this morning.

According to Sky Sports, the Gunners star is on his way back from Chilean capital Santiago.

He is expected at the club’s training ground tomorrow and will immediately be assessed.

Sanchez, 27, has scored eight goals in 15 appearances this season and Wenger expressed fears his injury could be worsened if he played against Uruguay.

Wenger said: “I believe that, with a hamstring injury, we have to get access for our medical staff to the MRI scan to see what grade it is, how bad it is and make absolutely sure they don’t make any suicidal decision that could harm his future for two or three months.”

Sanchez missed Chile’s first game of the international break against Colombia after sustaining the injury in training.

The Chile Football Association described his problem as a “low-grade muscle injury”.

And speaking ahead of the Uruguay clash, Chile head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said: “Sanchez was not ready for the game in Colombia but we knew the injury was a small one and we could have him for this match.”
