Arsenal join race for Nemanja Matic

Interest in the Serbian midfielder is growing, and the Gunners are the latest club to show interest in the Chelsea man.

Nemanja Matic looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The Serbian has shown his intentions from the very start and was keen to force a move to Old Trafford, were he expected to meet up with former boss Mourinho.

However, other clubs joined the race for the towering midfielder. First, it was Massimiliano Allegri who saw Matic as an option to reinforce his midfield.

The Blues gave Matic permission to miss the team’s pre-season tours to China and Singapore in order to sort out his future, but the task is getting more complicated as more suitors emerge.

Wenger has identified the Serbian as his favoured option to sit in front of the defence and to act as holding midfielder. The French manager has shown in this transfer window that he means business and his efforts are not to be taken lightly.

Tiemoue Bakayoko has arrived at Chelsea, which means Matic’s exit is imminent. Where will he play next season? It seems the 28-year-old has a host of clubs to decide from.
