Arsenal striker looks set for La Liga return

Arsenal striker Lucas Perez looks to be closing in on a return to former side Deportivo.

The 28-year-old only joined the ‘Gunners’ last summer in a deal believed to be worth £17m, however after a season in which he made just 2 Premier League starts it appears that Arsenal may be ready to cut their losses.

Lucas’ former club Deportivo have made an offer for the player and are awaiting Arsenal’s reponse.

Arsenal’s club record signing of Alexandre Lacazette looks to have pushed the Spaniard even further down the pecking order, with the Frenchman also taking Perez’s No 9 shirt at the Emirates.

Perez is still optimistic that he can force his way in to Spain’s World Cup squad next summer but in order to do so, he needs to get regular games.

The player’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle recently arrived in London and is believed to be negotiating his client’s exit.

“We have talked to everyone. Arsenal know we want to go, that there are no opportunities here, and within a year there is a World Cup,” he explained.

On the subject of Perez’s No 9 shirt he said: “Would you not be angry and sad and upset if you had your squad number taken without being asked?”

Lovelle confirmed that Deportivo had made an offer and said that his client was growing tired with his lack of opportunities.”Deportivo made an offer a week ago. It is a permanent deal and worth more than Nolito’s move to Sevilla (£7.9m),” he asserted.

“Of course (he was told he would play more). Lucas signed for Arsenal and was the happiest person in the world and with all of his dreams to fulfil.

“We have seen that every time he played he did well, but after every time he got fewer and fewer opportunities.”
