Arsenal could suffer worst league start in 35 years

The season can’t get much worse for Arsenal having suffered consecutive league defeats, a manager under pressure, key players looking for a transfer and a divided and frustrate fan base.

However, as the Gunners prepare for their fourth Premier League game of the season as they host Bournemouth on Saturday, they face the risk of recording their worst start to a top flight season in 35 years.

The season seemed to get off to a good start with an enthralling 4-3 victory over Leicester at the Emirates Stadium on the opening day but things have since gone downhill, as the North London side suffered a narrow loss at Stoke City and a 4-0 hammering at Liverpool.

BeSoccer reports that Arsenal’s worst start in the Premier League era came in 2011 with just four points from the opening four games, including the infamous 8-2 humiliation against Manchester United.

A third successive defeat at the hands of Eddie Howe’s side would leave Arsenal with a Premier League low of just three points from their first four matches.

However, Arsene Wenger’s side do have history on their side. In their five previous meetings with the Cherries, Arsenal have never lost and won four of the encounters.

Bournemouth have also enjoyed a disappointing start to the campaign, having lost all three of their Premier League games, scoring just once.

If the side from the south coast do grab a shock victory at the Emirates it will condemn Arsenal to their worst start since 1982, a season in which they went on to finish 10th.
