Mikel Arteta has called on his Arsenal players to raise their intensity level as the team enters a decisive stretch of the season.
Arsenal took a slim 1–0 advantage into the second leg of their European tie against Sporting CP on Wednesday, with qualification still in the balance.
The result from the first leg leaves little margin for error, with the contest expected to be decided by fine details across both boxes.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Arteta stressed the need for the right mindset and approach, urging his players to compete with “pure fire” in a high-pressure fixture.
The Arsenal manager pointed to intensity, focus, and game management as key factors as his side looked to close out the tie and secure progression to the next round.
“No fear, pure fire. That’s it. “The opportunity is unbelievable. Let’s confront it, let’s go for it,” he said.
The Arsenal boss repeated his demand for aggression and commitment when asked about pressure on the squad.

“Fire. I’m on fire. That’s it. Zero fear,” he added.
The remarks come at a difficult point in Arsenal’s league campaign, with recent results affecting their rhythm across competitions. Despite the dip, they remain in contention both domestically and in Europe.
Focus now shifts to a key run of fixtures, starting with the return leg against Sporting CP before a major league clash with Manchester City—a fixture that could influence the title race.
Arsenal forward Eberechi Eze echoed the manager’s message, pointing to strong squad cohesion and a clear sense of purpose within the dressing room.
“The boss is passionate, and you can see the fire he has,” he said. “It’s about us and what we do.”
With pressure rising and expectations high, Arsenal’s response in the coming days could prove pivotal to their season.
