Aurier arrested before Manchester United clash

Tottenham defender Serge Aurier was arrested on suspicion of assault on Saturday night after an incident allegedly involving him and his girlfriend.

The Ivory Coast international was detained for several hours the night before Spurs’ crunch Premier League match with Manchester United at Wembley.

Police were called to Aurier’s house in Hertfordshire after reports of a heated row between the 26-year-old and reality TV star Hencha Voigt.

Aurier was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm but vehemently denied the allegations and was later released without charge.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Police confirmed: “A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of ABH. He has been released with no further action.”

Aurier was subsequently missing from Spurs’ matchday squad against Manchester United on Sunday.

A Spurs spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident concerning Serge Aurier this weekend.”

Aurier joined Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain for £23million last summer.

He was ruled out of a Champions League clash with Arsenal in 2016 after he was refused entry to the UK due to a conviction for assaulting a police officer in France.

The 26-year-old had been arrested outside a Paris nightclub in May 2016 after being stopped to take a breath test, and was eventually found guilty and given a two-month jail sentence, though this was successfully appealed against.

In 2015, Aurier was banned for three European games for “insulting acts” towards the referee in a Champions League match between PSG and Chelsea.

Aurier did not actually play in the 2-2 draw but made comments on his Facebook page about official Bjorn Kuipers over his dismissal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
