SUPER Falcons defender, Osinachi Ohale, has said the Black Queens of Ghana gave them the toughest opposition enroute to their victory at the 10th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) last weekend in Cameroon.
Nigeria, it will be recalled, defeated hosts, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionessess 1-0 last Saturday in Yaounde courtesy of Desire Oparanozie’s 84th minute goal to clinch the title for the record eighth time.
“The group’s clash against Ghana was our toughest, we won our first match against Mali same as Ghana against Kenya so the clash was almost a decider of who would get the semi-finals/top spot ticket.
“The clash was fiercely contested because of the high stake involved we were happy it ended all square for both sides,” Ohale who made the CAF Best XI after the two-week tournament told Supersport.com.
The Rivers Angels defender said they will savour their AWCON triumph in Cameroon for a long time to come.
“We feel quite great winning the African title for the eighth time, I’m certain the feeling will linger warmly in our memories for a long time to come.
“It was not a mean achievement, it’s tough and it showed that we have been working very hard.
“We are grateful to our past players turned coaches who worked assiduously hard to hold on the baton before passing it on to us.
“Of course, nobody will want to be blamed for an error in her department and that was why I defended as if my whole life depended on it.
“However, I could not have achieved much without the cooperation of the entire backline, midfield, among others who actually made the job a lot easier for me.
“It’s quite a great feeling of self-accomplishment for me and team-mates,” she said.
Ohale said the Falcons won’t relinquish the African title in a hurry.
“It’s true that charity must start from home which is exactly what we have been doing winning the African title for several times we are equally working hard to extend domination to the world stage.
“Other African countries have been working hard to unseat us but champions will always be champions.
“We will not sit back on our 2016 AWCON victory but continue to work even harder to be champions,” Ohale said.
