Awol Anthony Martial faces huge Man United fine

Anthony Martial has never been Jose Mourinho’s favourite person, but after his antics during their pre-season tour of the USA, he looks set to have played his last game for Manchester United.

Mourinho was unhappy Martial left to be with his partner as she gave birth to their baby boy, Swan, but was utterly fuming as he failed to return after she had the baby – and even before that, put in very little effort during the pre-season games he actually featured in.

Now, Mourinho is failing to answer questions asking if Martial will even return when United begin training in England, and issued a non-committal ‘I don’t know’ answer.

United as a club had been keen to keep the winger, who was a fan favourite, yet it seems they’re now willing to fine him a whopping £180,000 for going AWOL this summer.

Given how keen Mourinho himself was to get rid of the player, he might not be too gutted to see Martial has actually forced United’s hand in terms of a sale this summer.

The United boss has repeatedly said he wants to bring in at least two more players – yet may have to settle for one, but with Martial now on the exit list and possibly courting English clubs who may be keen on a swap deal, Mourinho may get his wishes after all.
