Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi returned to goal-scoring form on Sunday when he struck twice for Royal Excel Mouscron as the fell 4-3 to Uche Agbo’s Standard Liege, AOIFootball.com reports.
The home side took the lead in 8th minute when Christian Nekadio scored from close range, however, the lead could only last for 10 minutes when Liverpool loanee, Awoniyi equalised with a well-taken effort, thus noting his first goal of 2018.
Two minutes into the second half, Liege struck again when Sebastian Pocognoli equalised, but just like in the first half, Mouscron equalised again, this time via the boot of Dorin Rotariu in the 65th minute.
With a man advantage on their side after Nekadio was sent off for the home side, Royal Mouscron took the lead when former Golden Eaglets’ star Awoniyi scored in the 76th minute to set Mouscron on their way to a rare away win at Liege.
With the clock ticking, the home team, who were a man less turned the tie around with two quick-fire goals from the pair of Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez (87) and Duje Cop (89) to hand them all three points.
The goals were Awoniyi’s sixth of the campaign, and he was on for all 90 minutes while fellow countryman Uche Agbo was rooted to the bench for Standard Liege for the entire match duration.
