Team Nigeria had a golden outing on Wednesday at the 2025 ANOCA Zone III Games in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, claiming two gold medals in the men’s and women’s doubles badminton events.
According to a statement signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Nigeria’s dominance was clear from start to finish.
In the men’s doubles, Joseph Abel and Shehu Aliyu cruised through the rounds without dropping a single game. They defeated Benin Republic, host Burkina Faso, and Togo — all by identical 2-0 scorelines — to secure the gold medal.
The women’s duo of Dorcas Adesokan and Deborah Uchechukwu delivered a similar performance, overpowering Togo and Burkina Faso on their way to the final, where they beat Benin Republic 2-0 to clinch another gold for Nigeria.
Coach Ismaila Muhammed praised the players for their focus and consistency, noting that the competition has helped sharpen their skills ahead of upcoming international tournaments and qualifiers.
More medals are expected as the singles, mixed doubles, and team events continue on Thursday.
