Bakayoko uncomfortable with EPL’s intensity

Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko admits he is still adapting to the intensity of the Premier League following a tough first season.

The Frenchman joined the Blues last summer from Monaco in a move that signalled Nemanja Matic’s exit to Manchester United but having arrived with a big reputation, he has failed to live up to the hype.

Bakayoko’s worst moment came as he was sent off within 30 minutes of February’s 4-1 defeat to Watford and despite seeing more minutes in the closing weeks of the campaign, has still to truly impress.

The 23-year-old has been fairly honest in his assessment of his first year in the Premier League, admitting he has not been able to adapt to the jump in intensity brought on by moving from France to England.

“I think it’s clearly superior in England,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. ‘It’s more intense, the difficulty level is higher. There is no time to rest or drop the ball for one game, that’s clear and it becomes clearer with every game I play for Chelsea.

“Here I’d say it’s the intensity, when you get the ball the time between defence and attack is so fast. The ball just flies backwards and forwards, and that’s something unique to here whereas in France, you have more time to build up your attacks, something you don’t have here.”
