Balotelli linked with Brescia move

Mario Balotelli is set to join his ‘hometown’ club Brescia on a three-year deal after turning down an opportunity to sign for Flamengo in Brazil.

The controversial former Inter Milan, Liverpool and Manchester City striker left Marseille in the summer and has been discussing a deal with Brescia for some time now.

Flamengo tried to lure the 29-year-old to Rio, but the former Italy international is now close to agreeing a deal that will take him back to Serie A for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Back then he was on loan at AC Milan after his transfer to Liverpool turned sour pretty quickly.

And English fans, in particular, will be intrigued to find out how Balotelli gets on with Brescia owner Massimo Cellino, who was a controversial and somewhat odd character when in charge of Leeds United.

Balotelli, who has 36 caps for Italy, is expected to join Brescia, who were promoted from Serie B last season after winning the division by one point, before the weekend.

Although born in Palermo, Balotelli spent a large part of his childhood in Brescia and has always said that he only feels at home in that city.
