Barca rejected Douglas return

Benfica wanted to send on-loan defender Douglas back to Barcelona in January but the Catalan giants rejected the move, say reports.

Diario AS cites a report in Brazilian outlet Uol which claims the Portuguese champions tried to cut short the full-back’s season-long loan, but the Blaugrana dismissed the idea.

The defender has made only six appearances for the Lisbon-based club but only made his league debut against Chaves last month, with the five others coming in domestic cup competitions.

The 27-year-old joined Barca from Sao Paulo in a €1.5m deal in 2014 but started only one La Liga match, and he spent last season on loan at Sporting Gijon.
