Barcelona to pay for Vermelen to leave

The Catalans are looking to speed up Thomas Vermelen’s departure by offering to pay part of his wages so that he can sign for Torino.

According to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, Barcelona and Torino remain locked in talks about a potential move for Thomas Vermaelen. However, the negotiations are understood to be complex, owing to the player’s high wages.

In order to solve the problem, Barca are said to be willing to pay a portion of the player’s wages in order to help him seal his transfer to Italy. In doing so, he would become the first player to leave the club this summer.

The centre-back spent last season on loan at Italian side Roma, but it is their Serie A rivals who look set to sign the 31-year-old.
