Barcelona target Marco Verratti hints at return to Italy

PARIS Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has admitted that he could return to his home nation of Italy in the future.

The 24-year-old joined PSG from Italian side Pescara in the summer of 2012 and has established himself as a key member of the ultra-dominant French side in the seasons since.

But he has been linked with a move away from Paris, not least due to his agent Donato Di Campli repeatedly discussing his future in the press. Barcelona is one mooted destination for the playmaker.

And while Verratti insisted he was happy at the Parc des Princes, he suggested he would be keen to return to Serie A in the future.

‘I would like to, I can definitely see it,’ the Italy international told Tuttosport.

‘But it has to be a top team, whether that means in our country or in Spain.

‘But at the moment, I am at PSG and I am happy with the role I have in my team.’

But Verratti insisted that he was happy to keep playing for Paris Saint-Germain

Di Campli suggested recently he would hold a meeting with PSG at the end of the season to dicsuss Verratti’s future.

‘I don’t feel like saying anything,’ he told Premium Sport. ‘A lot of wrong things have been said. I want to keep things calm as PSG aren’t in the most happy of moments.

‘We’ll ask for a meeting with the club to discuss Marco’s future. The club have said that Marco won’t leave so we have to respect the will of the club.

‘But we will make a point of the situation after the Coupe de France final.’

He also said the only way he would leave the French giants would be to join another top club

PSG have suffered a disappointing season, with manager Unai Emery struggling to match the domestic dominance of his predecessor Laurent Blanc.

The Paris giants are second in the table behind Monaco and exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage after a dramatic defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

Verratti and Co will take on St. Etienne in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening.
