Bauchi govt set to scrap sports council

Bauchi state government has taken a step to enhance sports development and administration as it is set to scrap the sports council and replace it with a sports commission.

Consequently, the government has inaugurated a special committee that will see to the smooth transformation of the sports council to a fully functional and operational Commission.

The committee was inaugurated by the State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Adamu Babayo Gabarin, explaining that the development is a significant step towards modernising sports administration in the State.

Gabarin also explained that the move is aimed at improving efficiency in sports management, attracting private investors and enhancing grassroots sports development across the state.

According to the Commissioner, when established, the state sports commission will provide better structures for talent discovery, athletes’ welfare, sports funding, coaches and other stakeholders’ contribution as well as positioning Bauchi as a centre for sporting activities in Nigeria.

Gabarin added that the initiative aligned with Governor Bala Muhammad’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports excellence in the state.

The special committee, which is saddled with the responsibility to develop a framework for the full transition, consist of experts from various fields, and has been given four weeks to submit its report.

The committee is to be chaired by the Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Adamu Babayo Gabarin, while the secretary is Sulaiman Baba Musa an overseeing Director in the Ministry of Livestock, Members include Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Permanent Secretary, SSG Office, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, representative from Bauchi State Sports Council, Ministry of Justice and Labour Union among others.
