Bauchi sports festival, here to stay — Commissioner

The second edition of the Bauchi State sports festival which brought together, athletes from the 20 LGAs came to a momentous close on Saturday over 40 years after the maiden edition was held.

The festival aimed to discover raw talents that will be groomed to become representatives of the state in future national and international sports competitions to enable the state to regain its slogan of ‘Meccah of Sports’.

While declaring the festival closed at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Memorial Stadium, State Commissioner of Sports and Youths Development, Muhammad Salis Gamawa declared that the festival has come to say.

The commissioner expressed delight that event marked the rekindling of the spirit of sportsmanship among youths in the state.

Salis emphasised the permanence of the festival in the state’s calendar of events in order to promote friendliness and togetherness among the teeming youths.

He remarked, “The Bauchi State Sports Festival is here to stay. This event has showcased the immense talent and unity within our state, and it will continue to be a platform for nurturing our athletes and promoting brotherhood.”

The Commissioner, on behalf of the entire youths of the state, thanked the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed whose visionary leadership and support have been instrumental in the return of this soon-to-be annual event.

The event was graced by top government officials, including Honourable members of the State House of Assembly, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Distinguished CTC Chairmen of LGAs, Special Assistants, and other special invited guests.

At the end of the 2 weeks competition, Kirfi LGA emerged overall winners as it topped the medals table while Alkaleri LGA won the football Gold medal which is reversed in all competitions across the world.
