Benue FA announces kick-off date for Chief Akor Andiir U17 Tourney

Benue State FA chairman, Barrister Paul Edeh, has announced the date for the maiden Chief Akor Andiir U17 football competition.

According to Edeh, the competition will kick off on Saturday, 20th July, 2024 at the JS Tarka Stadium, Gboko and will be played across the state to unearth and give opportunity to young players and also select the best of them for better football career.

Sporting Tribune reports that before the announcement, the state FA had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a transport company in the state, Flight Transport Services, as its official partner.

The state U17 football tournament, named after the proprietor of the transport company, Chief Comrade Akor Andiir, is expected to contribute to the development of football in Nigeria by discovering hidden talents for the underage national teams.

The State FA, however, promised to donate medals, giant trophy, and 50 balls in support of the competition.

The FA chairman, Edeh, also added that he will sponsor the four coaches in the semi-final on free coaching course at the National Institute for Sports.

The organiser announced Monday 15th July, 2024 as the commencement date for the registration of interested clubs, adding that registration closes once the target of twenty teams has been achieved.
