BetKing 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball National Championship: Oyo, Lagos, Delta through to Men and Women’s final

Oyo men and women’s representatives have cruised to the final of the BetKing 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball National Championship held in Abeokuta, Ogun State in both categories.

In men’s category, Oyo State out-dunked Abuja 4-2 in the semi final to set up a final tie with Lagos who saw off the resistance of Osun State 5-3 in the other last four tie.

Lagos recovered from their opening 3-2 defeat to record two straight wins over Abuja (7-6) and Delta (6-1) and they are through to the grand finale after the victory over Osun State.

Oyo State on their part recorded emphatic wins over Osun (10-5) and Kwara (8-1) in the ground round before the semi final win over Abuja. Osun also started the competition on a losing note to Oyo (5-10) but they beat Kwara 12-4) among other key wins to get to the semi final before losing to Lagos (3-5) while recorded narrow wins over Delta (6-2) and hosts Ogun State (5-3) en route to the last four.

Before the men’s final game on Saturday, Osun State and Abuja will contest for the third place game for a chance to win the N200,000 prize money. N500,000 is at stake for the winner of the Men’s event while the second placed team will smile home with N300,000.

In the women’s cadre, Oyo State showed their mettle again in the semi final after they narrowly edged Imo State 4-3 to qualify for the final. They will hope to claim the N500,000 prize money if they are able to conquer Delta State that thrashed Kwara State 6-0 in a one sided semi final tie.

The final tie will witness a repeat of the group stage tie which Oyo State narrowly won 3-2 at the expense of Delta State.

Imo State will slug it out with Kwara State in a bid to win the third place game and a chance to grab the N200,000 prize money.

Imo had earlier met Kwara in the group stage with the North Central side piping their SouthEast counterparts 1-0. Will it be the turn of the Eastern Heartland Queens to upstage Kwara?

The Most Valuable Player in both categories are also to smile home with N100,000 each.

The BetKing 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball National Championship comes to an end on Saturday at the Alake Sports Club, Abeokuta, Ogun State with the sponsor having bigger plans for the Federation.
