Bologna set to sign Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge has been handed a lifeline to return to football by Italian outfit Bologna.

The 29-year-old is on the lookout for a new club after being released by Liverpool and the end of last season.

But the Daily Express reveal that a move to the Serie A could revive his career after an injury-plagued end to his spell at Anfield.

Sturridge has attracted plenty of admirers following his release, with Aston Villa and Rangers also holding an interest in the former England striker.

Yet, any move to Bologna would have to see him reduce his wage demands, having been on £120,000 a week at Liverpool.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City had been given the boot as fears over his recent injury problems did not make him a suitable back-up option to Roberto Firmino.

After joining the Reds in January 2013, Sturridge went on to score 31 times in the Premier League in his first 18 months.

But he managed just four starts last season in the English top flight, as he struggled for fitness.

Bologna are reportedly putting together an ‘attractive package’ to sway to play club football outside of England for the first time in his career.

The Greyhounds are in the market for a new striker with no player scoring more than eight in Serie A last season.

Sturridge will now have to weigh up his options, having spent his summer enjoying a break in America. That was until his £4,000 Pomeranian dog was stolen from his Los Angeles mansion.

Thieves broke into his Hollywood home, taking his beloved pet and some bags. Sturridge immediately posted CCTV images of the kidnappers, along with his address and a £30,000 reward to whoever found the pup – while also claiming he would be moving out straight away.

Thankfully, Lucky Lucci was found hours by a local rapper by the name of Killa Fame.
