Brendan Rodgers, Leicester part ways by mutual consent

In a surprising turn of events, Brendan Rodgers has parted ways with Leicester City by mutual agreement.

The Foxes currently find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League, a far cry from their previous successes under Rodgers, which included their first-ever FA Cup trophy and a semi-final appearance in the Europa Conference League last season.

However, this season has been a different story, with Leicester managing just two wins in their last 13 Premier League matches, leaving them in the relegation zone.

Leicester’s recent form hit a new low on Saturday, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Crystal Palace. The Foxes mustered just three shots on target compared to Palace’s 31, and the result proved to be the final straw for Leicester’s owners, who decided to act and bring an end to Rodgers’ four-year spell at the club.

Despite the disappointing results this season, Leicester’s chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, was full of praise for Rodgers and his contributions to the club.

“The achievements of the team under Brendan’s management speak for themselves – we’ve experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance, and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch,” he said in a statement.

“Off the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the club and helped cultivate an outstanding developmental environment. His place in Leicester City history is assured.”

Srivaddhanaprabha went on to explain that while the board had hoped that continuity and stability would be the key to turning things around this season, the desired improvement had not materialized.

“Regrettably, with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status,” he said.

In the meantime, first-team coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will take on Rodgers’ responsibilities while the club searches for a new manager who they believe is capable of keeping them in the Premier League.

Sadler and Stowell’s first game in charge will be a crucial one, as Leicester take on Aston Villa at home on Tuesday.
