Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of clinching the Bundesliga title following their victory over 10-man Augsburg, which propelled them to the top of the table.
With this win, Dortmund now sit two points clear of Bayern Munich, who suffered a 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday.
The match saw Augsburg’s Felix Uduokhai being shown a red card in the first half for a foul on Donyell Malen. Dortmund capitalized on their numerical advantage when Sebastian Haller broke the deadlock with a low strike in the 58th minute. Haller continued his fine form by adding another goal from close range, and Julian Brandt sealed the victory with a late third.

This crucial victory puts Dortmund in an excellent position to secure their first Bundesliga title since the 2011-12 season, potentially ending Bayern Munich’s remarkable streak of winning the league for ten consecutive years. While Bayern, under the guidance of coach Thomas Tuchel, will face Koln on the final day of the season, Dortmund only needs a win against Mainz at home to secure the championship.
Bayern Munich made the decision to dismiss Julian Nagelsmann in March when they were sitting in second place in the table. They swiftly appointed former Chelsea manager Tuchel in the hopes of reclaiming the title. However, with Dortmund’s strong performance, Bayern now find themselves relying on a Dortmund slip-up to retain the Bundesliga trophy.
