Delegations from South Africa, Egypt, South Sudan, Seychelles and Congo have stormed Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, ahead of the 3rd Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) championship scheduled to be held from 16th to 20th July, 2025.
Relatedly, continental powerhouses such as Egypt, Botswana, and South Africa have also landed in Abeokuta as final logistics and preparations reach their peak.
The CAA championship, slated to take place at the iconic MKO Abiola International Stadium, is already creating a festive atmosphere in the capital city.
Over 43 countries and about 1,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate in the event, which marks a major moment for Nigerian athletics and the African sports community.
The National Sports Commission, alongside major sponsors such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Bank of Industry (BOI), and LEDCO Limited, has promised a world-class hosting experience.
Meanwhile, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) protocol team, led by Arabirin Aderonke, Head of Protocol, has ensured a seamless and heartwarming welcome for all the contingents as the athletes were received with smiles, Nigerian hospitality, and swift coordination as they were ushered through arrival procedures.
“Our protocol teams are fully mobilised at the airports to ensure a smooth experience for all arriving delegations, as the National Sports Commission had demanded excellence from every subcommittee in the LOC,” Aderonke said.
