The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday described Nigeria’s outing at the 2024 CAF Awards as a great boost to the country’s international profile.
Speaker Abbas said Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman’s emergence as the African Player of the Year; Super Falcons’ retention of the Women’s National Team of The Year award; and Chiamaka Nnadozie’s defence of her Goalkeeper of the Year title have excited Nigerians across tribes and religions.
The Speaker, in a congratulatory message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, said sports and entertainment have continued to unite Nigerians across lines and divide.
He also said Nigeria’s superiority in football, especially on the African continent, has been affirmed by Lookman’s succession of another Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year.
As Nigerians have won the African Player of the Year a record seven times, Speaker Abbas noted that the country has provided the world with stars across various areas of human endeavour against all odds.
The Speaker also called for more investment in Nigerian youths, saying the country is a major producer of talents in sports, entertainment, science, and other fields.
While congratulating the awardees, Speaker Abbas urged them to remain good ambassadors of Nigeria and keep the country’s flag flying.
