CAF Champions League: Al-Merrikh ready for Rivers Utd —Ojo

Nigeria-born Dayo Ojo has revealed that Al-Merrikh of Sudan are fully prepared for Rivers United in the CAF Champions League first round.

The Sudanese giants dismissed Equatorial Guinea’s Sony Elá Nguema 5-1 after two legs in the preliminary round, while the Nigerian team strolled past AS Real Bamako 4-0 on aggregate to reach this stage.

Al-Merrikh, who also boast of another Nigerian [Kunle Odunlami] face Stanley Eguma’s men for the first time in their history, and the former Sunshine Stars midfield stalwart who narrowly missed joining the Port Harcourt based outfit at the beginning of the season is certain that his teammates are more than capable of securing a place in the group stage.

“Playing against Rivers United is like playing against any other team on the continent,’’ Ojo told Goal.

“The difference is that I am returning to my country to play, and against a team I know very well.

“I must confess here that they know us too well – meaning the game is not going to be an easy one.

“Well, there is never an easy game in football, so we prepare very well for every challenge[s].  For Rivers United, we are very well prepared because our sight is on the Cfa Champions League trophy.”

Luc Eymael’s  travel to Nigeria for the first leg between March 10-12 before hosting the second leg a week later.
