CAF condemns players, officials over conduct in AFCON 2025 final

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has condemned the conduct of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat.

In a statement published on Monday, 19 January 2026, CAF said the behaviour occurred during the AFCON 2025 final and was unacceptable.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat last night.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organisers.

“CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty,” the statement read.

The governing body did not disclose further details on possible sanctions.

Recall that the AFCON final was disrupted deep into injury time with the score at 0-0 when Morocco were awarded a penalty following a VAR review for a challenge on Brahim Diaz.

Most Senegal players walked off the pitch in protest, while Senegal’s former Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, stayed on and appealed to his teammates to return for the kick.

Senegal players had earlier protested after a goal was disallowed for a foul at the other end of the pitch.

Trouble also broke out in the stands as some Senegal supporters attempted to enter the field of play and clashed with security personnel.

The match was delayed for nearly 20 minutes before Diaz took the penalty, which was saved by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Pape Gueye later scored in the fourth minute of extra time to give Senegal a 1-0 victory.
