Sports enthusiast, Ifeanyi Onukwubiri, has hailed the Flying Eagles of Nigeria for winning bronze at the just-concluded CAF U-20 African Cup of Nations tournament held in Egypt.
Nigerian team on Sunday defeated hosts Egypt 4-1 in a penalty shootouts after the encounter ended 1-1 after 120 minutes play.
Onukwubiri, said that he was happy with the level of success recorded in the tournament adding that there was improvement in terms of preparations in the just concluded CAF U-20 African Cup of Nations than the one hosted two years back.
Onukwubiri, said that though the Flying Eagles were expected by sports loving Nigerians to make it to the finals adding that defeating Egypt in front of their million fans cheering them in the placed match was something to be proud of by all sports enthusiasts in Nigerian.
He expressed optimism that with the same commitment, the crop of players in the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will do very well at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Onukwubiri, said that he saw raw talent in the team who just need proper modelling to become superstars in the nearest future.
According to him, the future of Nigerian football, especially the Super Eagles, is bright owing to the talents he saw in the Flying Eagles in the just concluded CAF U-20 tournament.
He said, “Though the target was to win the golden medal but defeating Egypt before their home crowd to come home with the bronze was something to be proud of by the lads. I congratulate them and the coaching staff and urge them to work harder to make Nigeria prouder at the global scene.”
