CAS to hear ex-Ghana FA boss Nyantakyi’s case against FIFA Thursday

By Wale Emosu
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will on Thursday hear the case filed by Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) against world football governing body FIFA.

Nyantakyi decided to approach CAS following the life ban from football-related activities imposed on the Ghanaian football administrator by FIFA in October 2018.

Earlier in 2018, Ghanaian undercover reporter Anas Aremeyaw had released a video documentary wherein Nyantakyi was seen allegedly collecting bribe.

FIFA not only banned Nyantakyi on the back of Aremeyaw’s report; it also ordered a forensic audit of the accounts of the Ghana FA, which Nyantakyi headed until the bribery allegation in June 2018.

The FIFA forensic audit team, which spent some weeks in the west African country during its investigation, eventually gave the Ghana FA the all clear. The result of the audit has been submitted to the Normalisation Committee running the affairs of Ghanaian football, but same has not been made known to the public since.

The Normalisation Committee was put in place by FIFA last year to run the affairs of Ghana FA for an initial period of six months before its lifespan was extended to 12 months.
