When is the Champions League draw… and who is through so far?

THE Champions League group stages draw to a close this week – but when is the draw made for the next round?

When is the draw for the Champions League last 16?

The draw for next round of the competition is on Monday December 12, in Nyon, Switzerland.

It gets underway at 11am UK time.

How does it work?

There will be two pots of teams, with group winners and second-place sides playing against each other.

But no clubs from the same country can play each other and sides cannot play against a team they played in the group stages.

In the quarter-finals and beyond it is an ‘open draw’ when any side can play another.

Who will be at home first?

Second-place teams play hosts in the first-leg.

Those ties will be played over four matchdays (February 14/15 and February 21/22).

The group winners will then get their chance on their own patch in the second legs.

Those games will play over the dates March 7/8 and March 14/15.

Who is already through?

Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Leicester, Arsenal, Monaco and Napoli are confirmed as group winners.

Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica and Paris St-Germain are confirmed in second place.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are both through but are fighting to top the Group F (Madrid must beat the Germans at home to finish first).

Porto will finish second in Group G with a win over Leicester. A draw or defeat will mean Copenhagen go through if they beat Club Brugge.

Juventus are through and will top Group H if they beat Dinamo Zagreb.

They’ll also finish top if Sevilla don’t win.

If Lyon beat Sevilla by two clear goals they’ll come second instead of the Spanish side.
