Chelsea extend winning streak with impressive display against Leicester City

Chelsea ended a fantastic week with a stylish 3-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League. The game saw Leicester reduced to 10 men towards the end.

The Blues had a midweek win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, which helped ease the pressure on coach Graham Potter. They continued their winning streak at the King Power Stadium.

Former Leicester player Ben Chilwell scored the opening goal in the 11th minute. Patson Daka equalized for the hosts, but Kai Havertz’s brilliant sixth league goal of the season restored Chelsea’s lead.

Mateo Kovacic then sealed the deal with a stunning third goal, highlighting the team’s growing cohesion since several players joined in January.

Chilwell scored his second league goal of the season with a well-struck half-volley that beat Danny Ward at his near post. Leicester almost equalized immediately when Daniel Amartey diverted James Maddison’s cross wide from point-blank range.

Chelsea’s Joao Felix had a shot that hit the post, while Leicester’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s deflected long-range effort hit the crossbar. Joao Felix had a goal disallowed for offside, and he was also guilty of losing possession just outside his own area as Daka scored an impressive equalizer.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made crucial saves to prevent Leicester from completing the comeback. Havertz scored the winning goal in added time of the first half, flicking the ball beyond Ward from Enzo Fernandez’s excellent pass.

Chelsea created more chances in the second half, with Wesley Fofana seeing his header saved by Ward. The Leicester goalkeeper also produced heroics to prevent Havertz from doubling his tally.

Mudryk’s goal was disallowed, and Kovacic’s acrobatic volley put the game beyond doubt 12 minutes from time. Wout Faes was then sent off for a bad tackle on Carney Chukwuemeka.
