City on course to break Premier League record

Manchester City’s start to the season has been nothing short of sensational and it will come as no surprise that the ‘Citizens’ are well on course to break the Premier League’s record for the number of goals scored by a team in a single season.

Pep Guardiola’s side pummeled Stoke into submission on Saturday, scoring seven goals to take their tally for the season so far to 29 in just eight games.

Should they keep up the level of goalscoring that they have managed so far (a whopping 3.63 goals per game), they will end the season on 138 goals, a total that would not just break the current record but rather obliterate it.

Chelsea hold the current record after scoring 103 goals during the 2009/10 season as they stormed to the title.

Incredibly, City’s tally after just eight games of this campaign is equal to the amount that the club scored during the entirety of the 2006/07 season under the management of Stuart Pearce.

Guardiola’s men have looked unstoppable in front of goal at times, scoring six against Watford and five against both Crystal Palace and Liverpool in the opening weeks of the new season.

City fans will no doubt be hoping that the goal-rush continues, with City well on course to smash ever record going.
