Commonwealth Fencing 2022: Olayemi, Eribenne happy representing Nigeria

The duo of Iteoluwakiishi Olayemi and Somtoo Eribenne have expressed excitement at representing Nigeria at the ongoing Commonwealth Fencing Games 2022  in London.

13 years old Olayemi who made it to the elimination stage of the Game held at Sport Dock of the University of East London said she was happy and excited to represent the country.

“Inasmuch as I am happy representing the country at this Games being my first major international games I wish I could do more but the joy here is that I represented the country so well becoming the first Nigerian to get to this stage. It was a great honour wearing Team Nigeria and will strive to do more, “the African Champion in the Cadet category said.

Speaking in  the same vein the 14 year old  Spain based Eribenne  who is also representing the country and has participated in  various National Fencing championships in Spain said “I am happy to represent Nigeria at this major Games and I’m looking forward to doing well during my game tomorrow (today). Though it is not going to be an easy ride, I am mentally prepared for the task ahead,” she told Sportingtribune.

In his reaction, President, Nigeria Fencing Federation, Adeyinka Samuel having commended the efforts and determination of the young girls at the Games said there is bright future for the game in the country,” he said.
