Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President, Ahmadu Musa Kida, has urged Team Nigeria to repay the Federal Government’s support by delivering outstanding performances at the Commonwealth Games, which start tomorrow in Glasgow, Scotland.
The NBBF boss, who said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has continued to demonstrate commitment to the development of sports through improved support for athletes and sporting federations, charged members of Team Nigeria to remain focused, disciplined and determined to make the country proud as the Games commence.
While expressing confidence that the country’s athletes possess the talent and determination needed to challenge for medals despite the high level of competition expected at the Games, he encouraged the athletes to see the tournament as an opportunity to showcase the resilience, hard work, and fighting spirit Nigerians are known for.
According to Kida, who is also the board chairman of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), every medal won would not only bring honour to the nation but also inspire millions of young Nigerians who dream of representing the country in sports.

He also commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) under the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and the Director General, Bukola Olopade, for providing an enabling environment that has helped the teams prepare effectively for the competition, saying their commitment to the growth of sports is worthy of commendation.
Nigeria will compete in 10 sporting events, namely athletics, boxing, judo, swimming, weightlifting, basketball, wheelchair, among others.
The Commonwealth Games is a planned multi-sport event scheduled from 23rd July to 2nd August, 2026, to be hosted in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland.
