Plateau United
Still basking in the glory of the recent triumph in the just-concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), stakeholders are worried over the choice of home ground of Plateau United in the CAF Champions League season in 2018.
Plateau United used as home ground the Rwang Pam Stadium for their league matches but the venue is not up to the standard required by CAF for their competitions.
However the intended ultra-modern New Zaria Road stadium in Jos is still far from completion as Vintage Sports gathered it would cost the Plateau State government N3bn to upgrade to continental level.
However, the State Commissioner of Youths and Sport, Mr. Danladi Mann allayed fears saying: “We have plan A and B, we are not folding our arms, we are working simultaneously on the new stadium and Rwang Pam Stadium. If the new stadium is not ready, we would fall back on Rwang Stadium. The Governor has directed the contractor handling the new stadium back to site and mobilised the company with the sum of N200 million, I can assure you that we would play all our home games in Jos, the state government is working towards this.
Vintage Sports further learnt that before the end of November, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials in charge of Competition will be in Jos for an inspection yet Mann insists all will be well.
“The State Government is not relenting in its efforts; it will meet whatever deadline given to it. The critical areas that need to be put in place will be ready and virtually all the equipment to carry out the works are also on ground.”
