Keeper Thibaut Courtois has backtracked on comments suggesting his ‘heart is in Madrid’ and says talks are ongoing with Chelsea.
The 25-year-old spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid before breaking into the Chelsea first team but still has a connection with the city as his children live there.
The Belgium international has established himself as one of the top custodians in world football and it comes as no surprise to see him linked with a switch to Real Madrid.
Moving to clarify recent comments about his future, the talented shot-stopper admits to being happy in west London but curious as to what Los Blancos might have to say.
‘I’m not clear about my future, what I said that my heart is in Madrid was misunderstood,’ he said. ‘I have two children in Spain, in Madrid, and that’s not easy. I have one year left here and I’m happy and talking to Chelsea.
‘They have bet on me from the first moment and that is not forgotten. I do not think [Real Madrid president] Florentino Perez calls me, he will call my agent and he will listen to him.’
