Courtois yielding dividends on signing

A festival of Real Madrid goals was expected against Huesca but in the end that didn’t happen, and without the interventions of Thibaut Courtois, they may not have left with all three points.

His three important saves helped his side to the win, with Gareth Bale getting the only goal of the game at the other end.

Courtois didn’t have the ideal start to life as a Real player, arriving late due to Chelsea’s determination to find a replacement before selling him.

In addition, Los Blancos struggled at that time and the losses began to build up, but the Belgian wasn’t to blame for that and soon formed one of the best goalkeeping duos in Europe along with Keylor Navas.

Against Huesca, the goalkeeper contributed as much to the victory for his team as any other player.

He didn’t score but his composure and confidence helped Real to three points in a game that was a difficult one for them.

The home side threatened with three good chances in particular and on all three occasions, the Belgian stepped up to deny them.

The saves don’t need to be lavish and being in the right place and showing the right reflexes is enough.

Solari’s good run continues, although the latest win came with more than a little bit of anxiety and suffering along the way.

At least Real did keep another clean sheet, one of their obsessions having not done so away from home in the league this season.

But they conceded too many opportunities to the bottom team in the division and who haven’t won since match day one.

Aside from the goalkeeper, Marcos Llorente is also settling in very well as a starter and is showing that he is much more than a replacement for Casemiro.
