The Real Madrid superstar scored twice in the Seleccao’s 4-1 victory over Latvia in World Cup qualifying to reach the landmark
Cristiano Ronaldo made another piece of history on Sunday evening as he scored his 68th international goal – tying Robbie Keane and Gerd Muller on the all-time list.
The Real Madrid superstar scored twice in Portugal’s 4-1 victory over Latvia in World Cup qualifying to reach the landmark.
Only Miroslav Klose (71), Sandor Kocsis (75) and Ferenc Puskas (84) now sit ahead of Ronaldo in Europe’s list of all-time top scorers.
Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, squeezing the ball under the goalkeeper.
He had the chance to double his tally just before the hour mark with another spot kick, but could only find the inside of the post as the ball bounced on to the goalkeeper and away to safety.
Latvia equalised shortly afterwards to threaten a shock, but William Carvalho immediately put Portugal back in front, before a thunderous volley from Ricardo Quaresma’s cross took Ronaldo to 68 Seleccao goals.
The win put Portugal second in Group B, three points behind leaders Switzerland after four matches.
