DAVID DE GEA believes the fact mistakes are respected more in England made him the goalkeeper he is today.
The Spaniard famously struggled at Manchester United after making the switch from Atletico Madrid at just 20-years-old.
But Sir Alex Ferguson showed faith in De Gea throughout his time at Old Trafford despite a string of mistakes.
“Goalkeepers and mistakes go hand in hand,” the shot stopper told the Manchester Evening News.
“Maybe in Italy and England they respect mistakes more.”
De Gea has gone on to prove himself as one of the best keepers in the world and has been named United’s Player of the Year for the last three seasons.
The Spaniard was dropped by Fergie during his first campaign after making mistakes against Edin Dzeko, Shane Long and Theo Walcott.
But after Anders Lindegaard let De Gea back in the side due to injury, the 25-year-old secured his spot as United’s first-choice keeper.
And Jose Mourinho has continued to pick the shot stopper who has made nine appearances in all competitions this season.
After the international break De Gea will look to keep a clean sheet at Anfield against arch-rivals Liverpool as the Premier League returns.
