Although the Spaniard has conceded four goals in two matches this season, he might be close to signing an extension at Old Trafford.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that goalkeeper David de Gea is close to committing his future to the club on a fresh long-term deal.
The Spaniard has been with the Red Devils since the summer of 2011 and during this period, he has been named the club’s Player of the Year on four occasions.
Speaking ahead of the Brighton game, Mourinho highlighted that both the club and De Gea are keen on working together for the long-term and thus the player has not been on the market in recent seasons. He added that the Spaniard should put pen-to-paper on a new deal at the earliest possibility.
“He likes it here, we love him. We want him to stay, he wants to stay, so when a player is not on the market, the value is zero. He (De Gea) is a Manchester United player and he will as soon as possible sign a new contract,” he said.

Over the past few years, De Gea has constantly been linked with a probable return to Spain with Real Madrid but no longer remains a possibility with the European champions deciding to sign Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea instead.
As such, United have a clear route to commit the Spaniard with no other big-club interesting him and the sooner the extension is finalised the better. De Gea is presently contracted to United until the summer of 2019 though the club have the option of triggering a 12-month extension clause attached to his current deal.
