DELE ALLI admits he’d love to be England’s next all-action goalscoring midfielder.

The 20-year-old dug Tottenham out of a hole with a crafty late equaliser and admitted he dreams of being the new Steven Gerrard.

Alli’s ability isn’t in question, it’s just whether he can keep hitting the net regularly enough to be mentioned alongside a genuine gunslinger like Stevie G.

Truth is he could have had three or four in this match but for the fact that he came up against Ben Foster in stunning form.

He denied Alli time after time and when ex-Spurs man Nacer Chadli scored with eight minutes left it all started to look ominous.

Alli rescued a point right on time when he clipped the ball into the bottom corner of the net with Albion desperately trying to hang on.

He said: “I’d love to score more goals. Gerrard is a hero of mine and to be put in the same category as him is an honour.

“I could have had a few more today. The one-on-one where I went through with just the keeper to beat, I should have put away and it would have been a different game.”

The last gasp equaliser helped relieve him of some of the guilt for letting Chadli give him the slip for Albion’s goal.

Alli said: “He was my man at the corner! My goal was just natural instinct because the box was packed and I knew that all the players were on the other side of the goal.

“It was a bit compact there so I wanted to put it in the other corner and thankfully it went in.”

Spurs deserved the point no matter how tough it was on the imperious Foster.

He prevented Albion going in three or four down at half-time with cracking stops to keep out Alli on a number of occasions and Christian Eriksen.

And he even managed a spectacular effort in stoppage time to prevent the visitors taking all three points home.

Foster went full tilt to the top corner of his net to brilliantly claw away an Eriksen drive.

Albion’s Chris Brunt said: “Ben has made some fantastic saves so I think if Spurs had gone away with nothing they’d have had every right to be a bit disappointed.

“I think they were actually creaking a bit just before we scored and when you score that late on you expect to go on and win.”
