Lazio midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, is sweating over his fitness ahead of this month’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau over an injury.
The Nigeria international picked up the injury in the second half of Lazio’s 1-0 victory over Bologna in their opening game of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign.
The former Manchester City midfielder, who started the match in midfield, was forced off in the 54th minute, with Davide Frattesi coming on to replace him at the Renato Dall’Ara.
Dele-Bashiru had previously been expected to make his return from injury against AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the 2025 AFCON bronze medallist has suffered a setback in his recovery and is now unlikely to return against the Rossoneri.
Following the latest setback, the Super Eagles midfielder is racing against time to recover in time for next week’s clash against Venezia at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.
Should Dele-Bashiru fail to recover in time for the Venezia fixture, his return could be postponed until after the international break.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to play two AFCON qualifiers later this month, and the international friendly against Russia next month.
