Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, has expressed satisfaction with the level of activities at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.
Dare stated that Delta 2022 has lived up to its billings in-spite of the short time the Ministry and Delta State had to plan the Games.
“We have not been disappointed. We have seen very young athletes from virtually all the states compete in various sports, with the youngest at about eight years old. This speaks to grassroots development, a major focus of our administration. What Delta State has put together in just about a few months testifies to how well they have done,” Dare said.
“The most important thing is that we made this happen. We built up a momentum in Edo State, we sustained it through Delta State and we hope that by December 10 when we announce the next hosts, we can sustain that, too.”
As of the time of going to press, Team Delta maintains an unassailable lead on the medals table with 88 gold, 37 silver and 28 bronze medals.
Team Edo occupied the second spot with 12 gold, 22 silver and 34 bronze medals, while Team Ogun placed third with 11 gold, six silver and 14 bronze medals.
