The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has advocated for a review of sporting events at the Commonwealth Games, calling for the inclusion of football and the expansion of other popular sports to enhance their appeal and global relevance.
Dikko, who cited FIFA’s decision to expand the number of participating countries, said the Commonwealth Games Federation need to engage major stakeholders in football on how to get football on board.
He also advised the CWG Federation on the need to adopt a continental rotation for hosting rights.
The NSC boss opined that African countries deserve the opportunity to stage the Games.

Dikko, speaking during a deliberation at the Commonwealth Games Federation Assembly in Glasgow, noted that since 1930, when the Federation came into being, no African country has hosted the Games.
He recalled that Nigeria bid for the 2030 edition but failed, while India won the hosting rights, so “therefore it will not be a bad idea if an African country is considered as next host in 2034.”
