Aston Villa have this afternoon confirmed the loan signing of out-of-favour Chelsea man Danny Drinkwater.
29-year-old midfielder Drinkwater has been on Chelsea’s books since the summer of 2017, when he made the move to Stamford Bridge from Premier League rivals Leicester City.
However, to say that the Englishman’s time with the capital giants has proven a disappointment would be putting it lightly.
Drinkwater’s first two seasons on Chelsea’s books saw the midfielder manage 5 total league starts.
As such, it came as little surprise to see him on the move this past summer, when Drinkwater joined Burnley on a 6-month loan.

The 3-time capped international’s struggles continued throughout his Turf Moor stint, though, as Drinkwater went on to notch a solitary Premier League appearance in the colours of the Clarets, last month vs Manchester City.
As such, Burnley unsurprisingly opted not to attempt to extend Drinkwater’s loan beyond its expiration yesterday morning.
The experienced midfielder, though, has today been handed yet another opportunity to revive his career.
As outlined above, relegation-battling Aston Villa have secured the midfielder’s services on loan from Chelsea until the end of the campaign.
The Villans made the news official a short time ago, in an announcement across the club’s social media channels:
