Super Eagles’ right-back Shehu Abdullahi has declared himself battle ready for Nigeria’s first warm-up game against Poland in preparation for the World Cup in Russia, stating that he and other defenders will tame goal king Lewandowski on match day.
The Bursaspor defender, who spoke to AOIFootball.com exclusively from his base in Turkey, said facing players such as Lewandowski will help boost the confidence of the defense ahead of the World Cup.
“It’s going to be a big test for us because we will be facing one of the top three strikers in the world, so for me, it’s a game we must give our 100% best.
“Lewandowski is a good player but we also have a good defense so we are ready for him and the team in general. Hopefully, we can beat them in their own backyard,” Shehu said.
The former Kano Pillars’ defender however welcomed competition in the team, saying new players can help the coaches with alternative options.
“This is the national team so I guess new additions are always welcome to help improve the team in all angles. I think it’s good for the team and the coach also to have some options in the team,” Abdullahi concluded.
Nigeria will tackle Poland in an international friendly on March 23 at Wroclaw, Poland.
